Treasures for Teachers
Oct 15, 2018 - Barb Blalock, our speaker, is the founder and leader of Treasures 4 Teachers.  In 2004, she observed as a 2nd grade student asked the teacher for a pencil.  The teacher exchanged the pencil for a shoe.  This way she was sure to have the pencil, a scarce resource in this school, returned before the end of the day.  T4T services 4,500 teachers around the valley.  It is head quartered in Tempe but recently was offered storage space at a westside school to encourage T4T to become more active in the west valley.  Although teachers are asked to pay $35/yr. to use T4T services, perhaps as many as half struggle with this payment in order to provide much needed supplies to their classrooms.
The club was quite receptive to her well-presented talk and view T4T as a strong candidate for future projects and financial donation.

Honorary Paul Harris Fellow
Oct 13, 2018 - In the early 1900’s Paul Harris was a Chicago attorney who believed in a vision where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities.  With that vision, he created Rotary and the rest is history. The Kyrene Rotary Club would like to recognize one of our generous sponsors as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Gary Pollock is the founder of Bay Isle Financial and is currently a Senior Managing Director for First Republic Bank’s Private Wealth Management Division. For the past two years, Gary has been a key sponsor for our Golf Tournament. He was instrumental in building the momentum for the inaugural tournament last year and has committed to be a key sponsor at the Platinum level for the tournament next April. Gary’s generosity is a reminder that it really only takes one person to change the world and we should never underestimate the power of one.
