January 22, 2024 - Two representatives from Teen Lifeline, Luis Barcelo, and Nikki Kuntz, gave us an excellent presentation About Teen Lifeline. The organization began in 1985 to try and address the teen suicide problem in Arizona which had the second highest suicide rate in the country. Teen Lifeline trains teenagers to answer calls from troubled teenagers - last year there were 44,000 calls. Using peers to help has been a very successful approach. Callers are helped in any number of crises, not just suicide. Teen volunteers receive 80 to 100 hours of training and answer calls from 3 to 9 pm, 365 days of the year. Teen volunteers work 15 hours per month and stay with the organization for over 3 years on average. They receive no state funding and thus depend on organizations and individual donors for support. Their budget is $1.6M Our club gave them $1000.
Their presentation was very well received an generated a multitude of questions.

January 8, 2024 - Lynette Stein, Chief Development Officer for Save the Family, gave us an overview of the current status of the organization. Treasurer, Rob presented her with a check from our foundation for $2000. We are pleased to be able to support such an active and worthy organization.
November 3, 2023 - Doug and Dave, were the first to deliver dictionaries to the Roosevelt School District this year. This was a unique experience because the teacher made a video of the event. Click HERE to see the video.
October 30, 2023 - Karen Jayne, Chief Executive Officer of Stardust Building Supplies, gave us a good overview of how her non-profit organization functions. They have a permanent staff but rely on assistance from volunteers. They have been in the Valley since 1997. Stardust is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. They operate two reuse centers for home improvement which sell gently-used, salvaged, and surplus building materials at affordable prices. Additionally, they provide deconstruction services that salvage building materials, divert waste from landfills, and support sustainability in the community. Karen's presentation was well received and generated many questions. Our Kyrene Rotary club will explore ways in which we might volunteer with this organization.
