June 2, 2014 Janie Hydrick, candidate for State Senate in District 18, spoke on her past and on her concerns.
She has a connection with Rotary being a polio survivor. Since there are ~470 homeless kids in the Kyrene school district, she was glad to see our support of the Kyrene Resource Center. Janie has been a teacher for over 40 years and is currently a professor for Embry Riddle.
Education, and its importance to economic development, is her primary election theme.  Some troublesome stats she hopes to address are that 70% of Az kids do not attend pre-school, 74% of students actually graduate high school, and Az spends twice as much on prisons as on schools. Janie plans to reallocate funds from existing programs towards her education goals.
