State of the City - Mayor Mitchell
Oct 28, 2019 - Mayor Mark Mitchell, Mayor of the City of Tempe, shared with us his State of the City presentation.
Mark Mitchell was born, raised, and educated in Tempe and is the second generation in his family to serve as Mayor. Mark said that the economy of the city is strong with Tempe creating new jobs through company expansions and relocations within the city. He informed us that the number one industry in Tempe is technology and innovation which is greatly assisted by the city's relationship with ASU. Tourism is the number two industry. The Mayor outlined the city's five year investment plan to improve the areas of parks and recreation, police, transportation, recycling, and homelessness.  He also emphasized the strength of the education infrastructure in the city. He cited the Tempe Union High School District and the Kyrene School District as great programs to supply ASU with quality students. Lastly, the Mayor stressed the importance of volunteer organizations like Rotary who help to improve the quality of life in our community and provide a strong safety net for those in need in our cities.
