Dec 22, 2014 - Dennis Haberer, a board member of TRVFA and member of the Scottsdale Sunrise Club, explained the purpose of TRVFA and how it operates to support students that fall within the category of the "working poor". The mission of The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona, Inc. (TRVFA), is to partner with Rotary clubs to provide assistance to the working poor in obtaining education, training and skill development. The ultimate objective is to attain career-oriented employment and financial stability. The organization serves districts 5510, 5590, and 5500. They seek support from all clubs in these districts and last year they collected over $80,000 which were dispersed in grants ranging from $1200 to $3000.  Last year they have provided 62 grants. They are hoping to have all clubs in the 3 districts help with financial support. Dennis gave us forms that we can use to contribute. Contributions can also be made directly from the TRVFA web site.

  Dec 15, 2014 - Dominic Bartola spoke to us as a beneficiary of the Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) program. His dog, Plato, was trained to alert Dominic to sounds in his house since Dominic is almost completely deaf. Dominic explained the program briefly but spent much of his time encouraging us to participate in the Dogfest Walk 'n Roll in Scottsdale on March 7th 2015. Dominic is the event chairperson and is looking for volunteers and donations to raise funds to support the CCI program. Recipients of trained dogs pay nothing but the training costs exceed $50,000 per dog. Club members were impressed with Dominic and his buddy Plato.

Dec 07, 2014 - Members gathered at Gary & Mary's  home for an evening of dinner, present wrapping and fellowship.  We brought and wrapped Christmas presents for two families with eight children.  Tyler selected the family from the Boys & Girls Club attendees and will be our Santa - delivering the gifts.  Thanks to all!!
