Dec 3, 2018 - Mark Mitchell, Mayor of the City of Tempe, gave us an overview of his and his family's past and why he thinks Tempe is such a great city. Interested readers can view his "State of the City" speech by clicking here. Mark gave us many statistics, like how large the city is (42 square miles), how much volunteers helped the city, how many jobs are being added, what companies are locating here, plans for a new street car, and development of a new ARTS / SCIENCE complex at the west end of Tempe Town Lake. His presentation was well received and generated much discussion. It's clear that Mark is a very enthusiastic emissary for the city and has passion for the city and where it is going. Thank you, Mark.
Dec 2, 2018 - Members gathered at Kelly and Lonnie's home for an evening of dinner, present wrapping, singing, and fellowship. We brought and wrapped Christmas presents for a family with needy children. Kelly selected the family from the Boys and Girls Club list of families in need. Thanks to all!! This year we were pleasantly surprised to be entertained by Katie Alexander's Glee Club. This is an annual event that club members vigorously support and enjoy.

November 26, 2018 - Today Jeanie Morgan, a Director of The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona (TRVFA), spoke to us about the mission and needs of TRVFA. TRVFA is a unique organization - it is approved by Rotary International and is qualified as an Arizona Tax-Credit eligible organization. The organization is focused on students who are pursuing certifications or degrees in vocational rather than college areas and who have financial needs. For students who have been approved by TRVFA, clubs are asked to endorse the students. There is no expense to the club. Clubs are encouraged to stay in contact with the students during their program, as well as afterwards. Club members and the club itself is encouraged to contribute to this most worthwhile organization. Check their website for more details.
November 19, 2018 - Melissa Zabor is a Commissioner and Judge Pro Tem in the Maricopa County Superior Court. Formerly she practiced law as a defense attorney and then as a prosecutor. She described the court and its operations - what a heavy workload it carries. The criminal court is open 24 hours a day and schedules appearances every 3 hours. Melissa herself, works seven 11 hour shifts every 2 weeks. Her court sees about 30 - 35 people every 3 hours. They processed 72,000 people last year. She finds her job challenging and very interesting to say the least. (Melissa is the daughter of our president-elect, Wally Stuebner)
