Feb 5, 2019 - After our 4th AWIM meeting of this session, the 9 volunteers and friends of Kyrene Rotary met for lunch and fellowship. The photo shows (clockwise from lower left) Doug, Pat, Bill, Andy, Jim, David, Ken, Skip, and Dave. We are half way through the project and the students are doing very well - many of them truly understand compound gear ratios. Now it's time to put the cars together. Lots of fun.
Feb 1, 2019 - Today, many of our club members met at Save the Family in Mesa to tour their largest residential complex for homeless families and learn more about the role they play in helping homeless families move forward in gaining employment, establish residence in temporary housing, and create a meaningful life for their children. In addition to Jamie Podratz, we met Greg Boone, Chief Development Officer, an individual we will work closely with as our 2019 Classic Golf Tournament evolves. We presented Jamie with a $2,500 check which represents our initial investment in the organization and look forward to a meaningful relationship that will benefit individuals as they work to build a better life and create a loving and secure home environment for their families.
If you are a busy person who wants to have fun while making a difference, then be our guest for lunch on Monday (not holidays) from 12:10 to 1:15 pm at the Kobe Japanese Steakhouse. We are men and women in ages from 30's to retired. Check our Facebook page - Kyrene RC as well. The URL for this page is KyreneRotary.org
January 28, 2019 - Today was our Exchange Student, Flor's Birthday. The club presented her with a candle-adorned cake and a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. Flor gave us an update on her activities and experiences so far and described her participation in RYLA in some detail. Several members of the club have had the opportunity to visit with Flor for a few days. We continue to be impressed and are very proud of her. She is a great ambassador for her country, Argentina.
Jan 21, 2019 - Patrick Walsh described the Rotary Microcredit program that is working in Sonora Mexico. The program has been using global grants to provide about $300,000 in loans to about 6,000 borrowers over the last couple of years. Patrick gave us lots of statistics about the success of the program and the interested reader should CLICK HERE to get more detailed information. Patrick described how the funds are managed by FinReg and explained that the funds "turn over" several times in a short period. Clubs and individuals are encouraged to contribute to the program.
