Feb 13, 2017 - Rose Ann Canizales, President of the Association for Construction Career Development (ACCD), told us about the organization. It has existed for 15 years and is modeled after a similar organization in Texas. ACCD's goal is to facilitate employment between career seekers and industry leaders. Each year they hold a 2 day event for students to see real world applications in the construction industry. The construction industry is short of manpower and would like to encourage students to enter this field: it is exciting, rewarding, and well paid. ACCD has a superb web site and a very informative guide. This year's Construction Career Days event will be held at the Arizona Army National Guard Papago Site on November 2nd and 3rd. They are looking for volunteers to help plan and staff the event site.

February 6, 2017 - President Doug inducted two new members into the club today; Dave Archibald, sponsored by Harry and Mike Pheilsticker, sponsored by Dave. We look forward to their contributions to all our activities.

January 30, 2017 - Melody Richards spoke to us last year about Feed My Starving Children  This visit she told of her experience growing up in South Africa and her journey to the United States. Her family was mixed with half her siblings being black and half white. That caused many problems for them in the era of apartheid; they were not welcome anywhere. Based on that difficult situation, she was determined to come to the USA, at age 18, to learn more and improve herself. She learned from her experience that "knowledge is power" which drove her to keep studying. She also believes that it's important to contribute to society and hence her work with Feed My Starving Children.  Melody has set a new challenge for herself and has taken up archery and hopes to make the USA olympic team.  Her story is an inspiration to all.

 Jan 23, 2017 - Mark and Anthony Newell, co-founders of Life Startup Essentials LLC gave us an excellent description of their organization and its activities. Together they have over 35 years experience working with homeless and disabled individuals. They created a company that provides the tools a person needs to successfully transition out of homelessness with dignity. They create kits for organizations and for individuals, who are looking to streamline new beginnings.
