Tempe Town Lake
March 19, 2018 - Alicia Jerger, Sr. Boating Director at Tempe Town Lake, gave us an overview of the many programs offered by the city of Tempe at the Town Lake. Alicia attended San Diego State University on a rowing scholarship and intended to become a lawyer before she got the opportunity to work for the city at Town Lake. She told us the Lake was conceived as an architecture project at ASU in 1966 and after many years of negotiations was completed in 1999. Now the Lake has several boating related activities and events, from rowing, sailing and kayaking clubs to the Dragon Boat festival every spring. Boats are available for rent most of the year. The City has done a superb job of making this a top rate recreation location.

Hospice of the Valley
March 12, 2018 - Lin Sue Cooney, Director of Community Engagement for Hospice of the Valley, gave us an excellent overview of the organization and the many services it provides. Lin Sue was a newscaster for 31 years at channel 12 but says she is now in the best job she has ever had. Her enthusiasm was obvious as she described how Hospice of the Valley began in 1977 as a non-profit organization and has never turned anyone away. They have 1400 employees and over 2100 volunteers providing services such as Living wills, grief support, dementia care, and pet therapy plus many more than can be listed here.  They are the only non-profit hospice in the valley. Check the website for more information. Click Here
