Several members and a couple guests of the KRC visited AZStRUT and Stardust on Tuesday, April 30. Most of the group met afterwards for lunch at Ted's Hot Dogs just down Broadway from the 2 organizations.
AZStRUT is a 501c3 non-profit that supports Az technical education as well as community efforts towards a more sustainable future. They accept used electronics and reuse, recycle, or divert as much as possible. The effort started with help from Intel and Motorola. Current efforts include a technology camp that concludes with donation of 1500 laptops to a Phoenix area school.
Stardust is a material reuse non-profit with the goal of “starving the landfill.” They accept working donate appliances as well as having several “deconstruction teams” to reclaim materials from homes. There was a broad range of home improvement materials ranging from wine coolers to doors to fireplaces to cabinets; well organized, at good prices.
April 23, 2024 - Dylan Valenzuela talked about how he started his new business, I C.A.N. WELLNESS, after working with/for an M.D. for 14 years. I C.A.N. Wellness is a medically supervised wellness program that provides a method to optimize the patient's health and wellness through dietary strategies, nutritional counseling and blood analysis and body composition testing. Dylan described his philosophy and method of working with patients. He puts a heavy emphasis on regular, detailed conversations with his patients. His new business is thriving and growing. His presentation generated lots of discussion with club members.

March 26, 2024 - Mike Tanner, member of Phoenix West and the founder of trustarian, gave us a good overview of what the trustarian organization does and how it came about. Trustarian is a website that all Rotarians can use to promote their business or let everyone know that they are available as mentors. A member listing can be free, or "Enhanced" ($20 per month) or "Deluxe" ($30 per month) depending on the amount of information in the listing. There are currently 140 registered users. Mike is moving "trustarian" into two other districts - 5500 and 5520. He is looking for help to recruit members and manage the site. March 04, 2024 - Rich Ward, the former president of AVNET Computer Group, gave us a brief history of AVNET, what it's major products and services are, as well as an explanation of how his group moved from LA to Phoenix. It is an amazing company with extremely high ethics. Rich is a true renaissance man who flew jets for the Navy, owns his own sheep farm that is totally off the grid, loves sailing and camping. We didn't have enough time to have a longer discussion with Rich but I'm sure we will have him return later in the year.
February 19, 2024 - Member Rich led us through a discussion to develop an understanding of who we are and where are we going as a club? The results of the discussion (on a white board) will help us develop a strong brochure that can be used for recruiting new members, as well as for soliciting donations to our foundation.
