August 31, 2020 - Harry gave us an overview of Rotary's Goals in general and the Malaria Project in particular.
His presentation is available HERE
Harry is a charter member of the Kyrene Rotary club, is a Major Donor, and has been involved in many Rotary projects, locally, and internationally. His current focus is on the Malaria Project which he described in some detail. He explained how the Project ties directly into 4 of Rotary International's 7 areas of focus. He said that Rotary's overall arching goal is to promote world peace and good will to all men. We need to keep Learning and Serving to provide support to the many needy areas of the world.  Harry asked that our club continue to support the Malaria Project in the coming years.

MAYOR OF TEMPE - COREY WOODS

August 17, 2020 - Tempe Mayor Corey Woods gave us an update on the many projects and activities in the city. The city is doing fairly well during these difficult times.  You can see his presentation HERE.
Corey has been the Mayor of Tempe for just 6 weeks and is learning quickly how to deal with difficult problems. He expects to see a 14% decline in revenue this year. The city has a rainy day fund which is allowing them to maintain most services, only needing to furlough about 500 part-time staff. Projects that are delayed or reprioritized include park improvements, Tempe Center for the Arts, and hiking and bicycle pathways.  The homeless population has increased by 6% compared to Maricopa county's 14%. The morale remains high in all departments and the public has not been complaining. The Mayor is going to lead a task force to look at ways to improve services in the coming years with less revenue.  His presentation can be seen HERE and a question and answer session can be seen HERE
