October 14, 2019 - Dr. Kevin Mendivil, Superintendent of the Tempe Union High School District spoke to us today.
Kevin was born and raised in Arizona and has spent 34 years in education in the Valley. He was originally a special education teacher in Gilbert then moved to Mesa before coming to the Tempe Union High School District. (TUHSD) where he has been for the past 9 years, his last two as superintendent. He is very proud of the district. He explained that they have the lowest tax rate in the state; the highest pay scale in the state; and are embarked on a program to help teachers improve their skills to deal with a very diverse population. They are currently rebranding the district to make it more attractive to parents and students. They have a strong Vision Statement along with 4 Strategic Goals.  Their Core Values and Beliefs statement is quite impressive. Dr Mendivil's presentation well received and generated much discussion.
