March 23, 2015 - Jerry Howard, Director of and archeologist at the American Museum of Natural History in Mesa, gave us an interesting presentation on native American history in the Salt River Valley. Relatively recent excavations in the Valley have tracked the progress from 13,500 years ago. The Hohokam people first came here in about 1 A.D. and during the next 1000 yrs built the largest network of canals in the new world. Jerry showed us a map of the area showing the complex system of canals. His presentation brought several questions from the group who learned about this interesting history for the first time.
