September 10, 2018 - Our speaker was Roberta Miller, candidate for Clerk of the Court. She described some of the responsibilities of the clerk which include recording all court proceedings, maintaining case files, providing court documents to requestors, and accounting for financial aspects of the court (collecting fines and restitution payments). She provided an example of a women awarded $5,000 at trial but payment was not received until 7 years later. The clerk is responsible to track down and reimburse plaintiffs even if they have moved.
